April Up(date)
Okay, so it’s been a minute since my last post, but I haven’t forgot about my mission, which was/is to record and release a big-boy-sized EP during The Year of Our Lord 2019. I’m still on track to do that, even though it’s APRIL, and there are APRIL SHOWERS showering outside my window as we speak, and the last time I wrote anything here was in DECEMBER, back when it was SNOWING (did it snow in December? I have no idea, actually), and if there’s one thing I hate, it’s a lapsed blog. You know, the kind that promises big and then fizzles and sits there un-updated for years until it becomes a dusty internet fossil waiting for some digital archaeologist to dig it up decades later and be like, “Huh, I wonder whatever happened to ______’s big fat plan to do ______?” I don’t want to be one of those.
So rest assured that during all this radio silence I HAVE been working on music. As tends to be the case with music projects, though, this one’s going slower than I expected, so I’m pretty sure that whole “Summer 2019” release date isn’t going to happen. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), I don’t have any labels breathing down my neck about deadlines or anything, so it doesn’t really matter when this thing actually drops. And, theoretically (and only to a certain extent, admittedly), the longer I spend on it, the better it’ll be in the end, so everybody wins. You win, I win, your siblings win, everybody wins.
You want a status update? I’ll give you a status update. I’ve got seven songs totally recorded and three mixed and ready to rumble. They’re a heady mix of brand new Wirelight songs and repurposed Zero Beach (RIP) songs, and if I had to slap a genre on there, I’d call it “rock, but not Queens of the Stone Age; pop, but not, like, Bruno Mars or anything; guitars, because guitars; synths that go BZZZZZZZ…” Does that help? There’s also a song with a sort of bluegrass-y shuffle beat, which is a thing I seem to keep doing for some reason. You’ll have to wait and find out.
In the meantime, if you’re in the Atlanta area, you should come see me at Smith’s on May 21st. It’s a Tuesday night, so I know you’re not doing anything, and it’s cheap as hell, and I’d love to see you there.
